Hi, I'm Danny! I began my career as an IT professional during the Y2K scare of the late 90s. With the lure of money, I dropped out of school to work full time. I soon realized that I was in a job I did not like, lacking direction, and feeling overwhelmed. Needless to say, I was depressed and anxious most of the time. ...and that is when my mother passed away suddenly. I knew it was time to make some changes in my life. It would not be easy, but it was definitely worth it.
I rearranged my life to be congruent with my values. I finished my undergraduate degree from Indiana University in 2006. I found a new spiritual home that I could believe in. Which is how I met my wife. With her support, I finished graduate school with a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) in 2011 and began a wonderful career doing crisis intervention and assessment. After completing 3000 hours of clinical supervision, I passed the examination to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I also spent 7 years teaching a drug and alcohol intervention program called Prime for Life.
In 2014, my wife's job relocated my family to Dallas. My 85 year old father moved to Texas to live with me, my wife, my step-daughter, my daughter and my son. Since the relocation, I have been employed in a hospital setting working with individuals and groups with a wide range of behavioral health concerns.
My approach to therapy. This is where most therapists will talk about "client-centered, strengths-based" etc, etc. What that means to you is this. You have a problem and you want solutions. I want to help you figure out what you value in life and how you can take steps to live your life closer to those values. If we can fix the problem, great! If we can't fix it, can we find a way to minimize the impact to your life? If we can't minimize it, can we find a way to accept it and restructure your thinking so that it causes less suffering?
Areas that I believe are critical for all of us to work on :
- Values clarification
- Assertive communication skills
- Identify distorted thinking
- Replace harmful coping mechanisms with healthy ones
- Stress tolerance skills
- Eliminate negative Self talk
- Release guilt and shame
- Address grief and loss
- Forgiveness of self and others
- Build compassion and empathy for self and others
